Researchers Find That Unhealthy is Tastier

September 15, 2008: 05:24 PM EST
Impulse buying for snacks often overcomes consumers’ healthy intentions, say researchers in the Netherlands. A study of office workers showed that although half preferred healthy snacks when offered a choice, almost a third switched later to less healthy options. Over 90 per cent of those who opted for unhealthy snacks at the start stayed with their choices. The findings show that the industry has a challenging task in designing products that are both appealing and healthy. The world snack market will be worth $255 billion by 2010, according to Global Industry Analysts, while the obesity solutions market is forecast to reach $1.4 trillion by 2012.
