Oldways Forms Med Diet Alliance

March 10, 2008: 12:00 AM EST
Non-profit “food issues think tank” Oldways has formed an alliance of companies that make or import Mediterranean food products in a bid to boost the advantages of the diet. The Mediterranean Foods Alliance aims to improve consumer health by increasing awareness and consumption of Mediterranean foods and drinks. It is an extension of Oldways’ existing Med Mark scheme, which helps shoppers identify Mediterranean products through a packaging label. A Mediterranean-style diet, rich in fruit, vegetables, olive oil and fish, is thought to help reduce the risk of dying from cancer and cardiovascular disease.
