Trans Fats Reveal their Secret

April 30, 2008: 12:00 AM EST
Trans fatty acids have yielded the secret of how they contribute to cardiovascular disease. Researchers from the Methodist Research Institute at Clarian Health in Indianapolis and Indiana University say they have discovered that TFAs trigger inflammatory processes in the cells lining blood vessels. The work was done in vitro using cells from the lining of the human aorta. Other recent studies have linked TFAs to increased risk of non-aggressive prostate tumors and breast cancer.
